MICHAEL
CONNOLLY
Award-winning documentary filmmaker Michael Connolly has produced five
of his own projects in partnership with Canadian broadcasters. The most
recent documentary, Shelter from the Storm,
on homelessness and activism surrounding Toronto’s Tent City,
was broadcast on CBC Witness. Other documentaries include How
To Eat a Cat: The Cartoonist Mike Constable, My
Sister’s Keepers, Making Peace and
The Iconoclast. Broadcast partners have included CBC, Newsworld,
TVOntario, Vision TV, Knowledge Network and the Saskatchewan Communications
Network.
Michael has also produced advocacy and educational videos for non-profit
organizations such as the Ontario Nurses’ Association, the Ontario
Public Service Employees Union, Toronto & York Region Labour Council,
Harbourfront Centre, University of Guelph and the Social Planning Network
of Ontario.
Michael has produced commercials with Compass360 Design and Advertising
for the Public Service Alliance of Canada, the Ontario Nurses’
Association and the Ontario New Democratic Party.
In addition to producing and directing, Michael is a proficient editor
and writer.
Michael is a member of NABET 700 CEP and the Documentary Organization
of Canada. He is a former member of locals of the Canadian Union of
Public Employees and the Ontario Public Service Employees Union and
has sat on the Boards of Directors of two artist-run centres: Trinity
Square Video and Ed Video.
Michael grew up in Halifax and now makes his home in Toronto.
